THERE WAS ONCE A TANGERINE that wanted to learn foreign languages. "English is fine, but I'd like to broaden my horizons", thought the tangerine and elaborated on his countless choices. Unable to make up his mind, he asked the other fruit and vegetables of the grocery store their opinion.
The tangerine chooses a foreign language to learn
"Then I'd suggest French, the language of civilization. It's also a very romantic language", told him a wild cherry that frequently visited Paris. She then showed him a picture with the Eiffel Tower, and followed it up with a French song.
"My suggestion is German, as it is the language of business and trade. Everybody in Europe knows a few German words nowadays", an apple told him, who had lived for years in Munich and held the German culture dear. He then gave him a Christmas wish card written in German.
"German is nice, but difficult to speak. I'd suggest Italian to you, which is easier and more rhythmic.", told him an olive who really loved Italy with its beautiful landscapes. "But then again Spanish is spoken in more countries than Italy and they are very similar", told him a pomegranate which hailed from Granada in southern Spain, and showed him pictures from his adventures in Peru, Bolivia and Mexico. Then they all sang a song in the language they had suggested, and the tangerine was even more confused. "It's all Greek to me", said the tangerine who couldn't make up his mind. Then a watermelon who hailed from Greece told him: "Then you'd best learn ancient Greek, as it is a very difficult language. If you make it, then you'll find it easy to learn any other language in the world" So our good tangerine decided to learn ancient Greek....
