A DATE once loved sweets so much that he couldn’t stop eating. So greedy was he, that his belly was constantly swollen and the other fruit and vegetables poked fun at his trousers always being tight on him.
Until one day he ate so much, that the trouser button exploded, and the fruit and vegetables burst into laughter. Not really wanting to admit that the sweets he had been devouring were the cause, he went to the tailor and asked for a trouser that looked exactly like the one he wore, but less tight around the waist. So it happened. The tailor welcomed him and sewed for him one that he could fit in. “See! I lost weight!”, the Date told the other fruit and vegetables as soon as he went back to the grocery store.
He wouldn't stop eating even in the days to come however, so the button from the newly sewn trouser exploded as well. The Date went back to the tailor one more time to ask him for an even more comfortable one so as to avoid changing habits. The same story happened again and again, until the tailor finally handed over to him the largest trouser he could sew, and told him: “if you keep on eating like that, I will run out of measuring tape”. As soon as he got back and suspecting what he was up to, the fruit and vegetables told him: “Bring the tailor here next time, so that we can all see he won't run out of measuring tape”. The Date went red with shame to hear it. Not wanting to admit he couldn’t resist sweets however, he then thought of proving them wrong: he borrowed a meter stick from a construction yard nearby, which the builder used to measure objects as large as columns and walls. He took the measuring tape, then brought the tailor with him to the garden and asked him to sew a new trouser right in front of the other fruit and vegetables so as to prove them wrong. Then the Date he took out the meter stick from his pocket and wrapped it around his waist. He wrapped it so many times that he eventually lost count and the tape got so tangled around him that he couldn’t get his arms out. “Help! Save me!”, he shouted anxiously at the other fruit and vegetables who burst into laughter with the sight. “Moderation is everything…!”, the other fruit and vegetables told him as they helped him free himself. They then apologized to the tailor for bringing him over for no good reason and returned the meter stick to the builder from which he got it. After going through all this, the Date eventually decided from that point to eat with moderation. He lost the extra weight the very next days by following a diet plan....
