A PERSIMMON that once lived in a garden had very short memory. “Oops, sorry, I forgot…!”, he exclaimed every time the fruit and vegetables set a date with him or told him to do chores. As he wouldn't change his ways, they eventually starting making fun of him.

One day, they decided to buy him a gift: a goldfish in a water bowl. “You’ll be best friends”, they told him and also gave him a jar of fish food. “Just don’t forget to feed the fish, as goldfishes have a very short memory”, they told him, giving no extra information on how to properly feed it.

Apart from having a short memory, however, the goldfish was also greedy and clever. Seeing that his owner was equally forgetful and the chances were that at some point it would be left unfed by the reckless persimmon, the goldfish asked him to be fed at the same times he ate. “Agreed!”, said the goldfish, believing that this way he would have company while eating.

“You forgot to feed me!”, the goldfish told him with confidence the very next day. The forgetful persimmon had his doubts, as he remembered very well that he had fed the goldfish that very morning. Yet, he was so unsure of himself that he thought it best to feed his pet again so as to be on the safe side. And so they both ate twice.
