A LAWNMOWER that once lived in a garden was very lazy, and so every time the gardening tools asked her to mow the lawn, she simply pretended to.
Yet, one fine Spring day, the grass happened to grow so tall that the tools could barely see their noses. They scolded her for being lazy and skipping her chores. “Well, you simply don’t know what chore this is”, the lawnmower told them without seeming to care.
And so, they threatened her that, unless she took care of the lawn, they would never play football with her again. As soon as she heard it, she got shocked and hastened: first she charged her battery, then took a big bag to dispose the grass and got down to work.
No sooner had a few minutes passed, however, than she felt already tired. She made sure no one was looking, then sat on her back and sunbathed. To enjoy it more, even, she wore black glasses and a hat, and fell asleep.
As soon as they took notice, the gardening tools got angry. They, then, took a ball and went in the garden to play without telling her anything, even placing two boots as marks for the goalpost.
The moment she heard the ball’s noise, she was sound awake. “You should have told me to join you”, she told them, then took the ball and started running towards the goalpost to score. So excited was she even, that she barely took notice of leaving the grass cut at the correct height from wherever she passed.
In order to test her, the two boots that marked the goal post switched positions. And every time the lawnmower came close enough, they simply ran to the other side of the field so as to make sure she would never score. In the end, she found herself having covered the whole garden before she had scored her first goal.
“You just need to cover the small details in the garden’s corners”, the two boots told her, and then the gardening tools burst into laughter as she realized she had been tricked into doing her chore.
She, on the other hand, cared little, as she had combined work and pleasure in her own special way and rather enjoyed the process.
