A BALALAIKA that once came from distant Russia happened to visit our well-known music school for the needs of a music performance concerning traditional and modern musical instruments. So great was her fame, even, that the musical instruments that lived in the music school, guitars, trumpets and violins, organized a big party to welcome her and make her feel at home.
The days passed and as the time for the music show approached, the balalaika gave her best self during rehearsals, producing beautiful melodies that reminded others of distant times in the past. Soon, however, she realized the other musical instruments were gossiping about her and had started to dislike her despite their warm welcome.
"A... triangular guitar!", they laughed behind her back. Things got really out of hand when one day the bouzouki and the baglama, acting out of jealousy, tried to bully her just before she went to bed to get some rest.
"What do you know, a triangular guitar has come from the other side of the world to take our job", the bouzouki threatened her.
"I've never heard of a triangular guitar... we'll be the laughingstock of the music school when the electric guitars that will come all the way from America tomorrow see us with you", the baglama added. Then, they left her alone as she, trembling with fear, went to her bed and cried till the next morning. The next day that she showed up in rehearsals, the musical instruments avoided all contact. She sat all alone in a corner and patiently waited for the electric guitars to show up and the show to get started. "Where are they? Are they coming?", one musical instrument after another kept asking, seeing that their audience had arrived and time was passing without the electric guitars showing up. When at some point they did arrive, the musical instruments were left with their mouths open: they all had modern shapes and bright colors, while some of them even had a triangular shape or the shape of a star. As soon as our good balalaika saw them, she found confidence and felt her anxiety going away. She felt so comfortable on stage to the point where her talent flowed freely. She, then, gave her best self, surpassing even the electric guitars, and as soon as her piece was over, the audience gave her a big round of applause. "Seems like you were indeed ahead of your time...!", the bouzouki and the baglama admitted at the end of the show, and the electric guitars burst into laughter. Then all the musical instruments of the school, from the smallest flute till the largest violin apologized to the balalaika. From that day on, she has kept the story for herself, so as to always remember how she managed to overcome her anxiety and make a whole room applause her....
