ONCE UPON A TIME in garden used to live an olive that was very afraid that she would one day get wrinkles. She would look at her reflection in the mirror each and every day, and use cosmetics and other creams to keep her skin smooth.
One day however, the inevitable happened. She woke up, looked in the mirror, and was shocked to see that a tiny wrinkle had showed up on her right cheek. Her worst nightmare had become a reality: she had already started to wrinkle.
The olive is shocked to see the first wrinkle on her face
“Oh God, what am I to do? One more wrinkle and everybody will look on me as old and ugly”, she thought. Then she headed straight to the nearest pharmacy, where she asked for the most expensive cosmetics she could find, blaming the cheap products she was using until that time for her misfortune.
After many days of using them, she looked again at the mirror, only to realize that the ugly wrinkle wouldn’t go away. Having spent all her money, she was disappointed not to have found a suitable crème. Then, she thought of asking the wise owl that used to nest on the tree right outside her window.
She said: “I have spent all my money on creams and cosmetics, but this ugly wrinkle I got will not go away. But what worries me even more, is that I feel I am finally getting old. Please tell me what to do”.
“Getting wrinkles is something you can’t possibly avoid. But if you truly want to live for centuries, I’d suggest you bury yourself in the ground and become a tree”, replied the wise old.
The olive was deeply troubled to hear the reply, since she had never thought of becoming a tree.
Then the wild wind blew, taking her by surprise, filling her with wrinkles and delivering her meters away in the garden. Years later, in that very same spot she was left when the wind started to abate, a sturdy olive tree was to be found, with hundreds of olives hanging from her branches.
