A THERMOMETER that lived in a household once had gotten tired of being made fool of by the electrical appliances that were constantly pretending to be sick so as to avoid doing their everyday chores.
Things got really bad when one cold winter day the radiator that kept working non - stop asked him to take his temperature. To make sure the outcome would be the expected, he approached the thermometer while still lit. "Are you out of your mind?", the thermometer told him angrily and the rest of the household appliances burst into laughter.
Tired of being made fool of, he started shouting so as to be given respect. "What you are doing is unacceptable", the thermometer told them, yet the appliances of the household wouldn't listen, even sticking their tongues out to poke fun at him. Soon, they all turned their backs on him. So angry did he get that he started crying.
After many tears, he eventually managed to calm down, and had a look of himself at the mirror. "Why don't you laugh with their silly game too?", the mirror told him, much to his surprise. After giving it some thought, he decided it was his turn to act.
In the next days, and every time some appliance asked him to take their temperature, he made sure to prove everyone sick. "My God, you're all burning with fever!", he told them and one after another they wrapped themselves in thick blankets and drank hot tea. At one point, they even felt worried that some epidemic might be spreading in the house.
"Maybe it's best if we call a doctor", the appliances said. The radiator then picked up the phone and dialed the numbers. The thermometer could be seen at the other side of the room, laughing with all his heart.
"Is he mocking us?", they wondered as they touched each others' cheeks and foreheads to be sure. Then they waited for the radiator to put the phone down and tell them the doctor's verdict.
"This is what happens when you mock someone", the mirror told them just before the radiator had put the phone down and they all became red with shame. After realizing the trick that the thermometer had played on them, they apologized and promised they would never repeat their mistake. And he in turn, apologized too, for joking about a thing as serious as being sick....
